Taste the Best, See the Best

If you picked October as the month to visit San Francisco, consider yourself savvy. Things are really starting to heat up here — yes, we’re talking about the weather. As the rest of the country begins the slow crawl into winter, the Bay Area is humming along in its usual warm autumnal temps that the locals refer to as the real summer.

Famous as much for it’s chilly Julys and Augusts as for its sourdough and Dungeness crab, the pleasant weather of September and October means it’s the perfect time to hit the pavement and explore the city (without a jacket in the afternoon). San Francisco is popular for its scenery and cuisine, but both are in such abundance that it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. After all, the city’s nearly 3,500 restaurants make it the most densely packed food town per capita in America. And with views, landmarks, and fun factoids stretching the entirety of these 47 square miles, where does one begin?

There’s no better way to see San Francisco and experience it’s unmatched food and culture than by taking a trip with Sidewalk Food Tours of San Francisco. Our highly knowledgeable and entertaining tour guides are like a combo waiter-historian on foot. We feature tours that showcase the sights, sounds, tastes, and smells of 3 distinct and fascinating neighborhoods: Chinatown, North Beach, and the Mission. Come along on a public tour Friday-Monday, or gather a group of friends or colleagues and book your very own private excursion.

One of the best things about October in San Francisco is the summer produce that’s still available here while autumn harvests are taking over markets in other parts of the country. Here are just a few of the delicacies awaiting your discerning palate:

Artichokes

Strawberries

Brussels sprouts

Pomegranates

Tomatoes

Almonds

Peaches

Avocados

Pears

Summer (and winter) squash

Fennel

Garlic

Cauliflower

We’re getting hungry just reading the list! So what are you waiting for? Check out our tours and book one today.

Introducing Chinatown Food Tour!

December 12th, 2014 | Posted by Foodie in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

IMG_1111We are very excited to announce the launch of our new Chinatown Food Tour in San Francisco!  We now have the opportunity to share not only tastes of our favorite dim sum and Peking duck, but also the fascinating history and architecture of the oldest Chinatown in the US.

Did you know that the San Francisco Chinatown is the largest Chinese community outside of Asia? The San Francisco Planning Department declared it “the most densely populated urban area west of Manhattan.” This means endless opportunities to discover new and delicious things down the winding alleys and in the shops scattered throughout the streets.
